THE Nobel Peace Prize was discredited if Barack Obama could be nominated for the award after just 11 days in office and win it nine months later, former foreign minister Alexander Downer said yesterday.

Mr Downer called the US President’s surprise win a farce, saying it was a pity Mr Obama had not refused the award.

He singled out Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai as a worthy alternative who had been ignored after years of struggling for human rights.

“The peace prize has to be for actual achievement – not potential – and it has to be achievement in promoting world peace, not raising the prestige of the American state, which is largely what Barack Obama has done so far,” Mr Downer told the ABC.

Mr Obama had been in office for just 11 days when nominations for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize closed on February 1. He spent most of those first days settling into the White House.

Although humbly questioning whether he was deserving, he described the prize as a “call to action”.

The award’s founder, Alfred Nobel, decreed the annual prize was to be bestowed for achievements “during the preceding year”. According to his will, the winner “shall have done the most, or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”.

The Norwegian judges took an alternative approach, handing the prize to Mr Obama for future works. Thorbjorn Jagland, the committee’s chairman, defended the award in the face of public outcry, saying: “It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve.”

It took two other former US presidents, Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, a combined total of 12 years before they were given the award.

Roosevelt had been president for five years when the Nobel committee gave him the honour in 1906 for mediating a peace treaty that ended war between Russia and Japan. He declined to personally accept the award until years after he had left office.

Woodrow Wilson won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1919 – seven years after he became president – for creating the League of Nations in the wake of World War I. Wilson’s drive in bringing the US into the war was critical to its end, and he took the leading role afterwards in the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.

When Mr Obama was nominated for the peace prize in February, he was still five months away from delivering his Cairo speech that called for a new beginning in relations between the US and Muslim world.

It was eight months before his UN speech in New York last month in which he pledged that the US would re-engage with the world after the isolation of the Bush administration.

Mr Obama has also launched a policy initiative to reduce nuclear weapons, sought to restart the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians and declared he was open to renewed diplomacy with North Korea and Iran.

But most commentators said the challenges lay ahead of the President, not behind him, and pointed out he was still fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In the first 11 days after January 20, Mr Obama appointed Richard Holbrooke as his envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan, and George Mitchell as his envoy to the Middle East. His other notable moves attracting international attention were pledges to close the Guantanamo Bay prison and ban torture.

Mr Obama’s Nobel win came as a surprise to him when he was awoken with the news by his press secretary, Robert Gibbs, at 6am last Friday (9pm AEST).

But on February 27, he was reported as a nominee, along with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who intervened after conflicts in Georgia and Gaza.

Under the Nobel process, nominations are not released for 50 years and the judging process remains secret.

It is not known who nominated Mr Obama. Under the rules, names can be submitted only by members of governments and national assemblies, international courts, academics, past winners and former advisers appointed by the Norwegian institute. Invitations for nominations are sent out each September, and the deadline is February. A shortlist is sent to a panel of permanent advisers, and then sent back for a majority vote by the five-person peace prize committee in early October.

London: Pop singer Michael Jackson has converted to Islam and changed his name to Mikaeel.

The 50-year-old star pledged his allegiance to the Koran in a ceremony at a friend’s mansion in Los Angeles, the Sun reported.

Jackson sat on the floor wearing a tiny hat after an Imam was summoned to officiate — days before the singer is due to appear at London’s High Court where he is being sued by an Arab Sheikh, the paper said.

The star decided to adopt the new religion while he was recording a song at the home of his friend where a Jehovah’s witness was brought up to help him through the ceremony.

Apparently the star of hits like The Way You Make Me Feel-was convinced by his producer and songwriter friends David Wharnsby and Phillip Bubal.

“They began talking to him about their beliefs, and how they thought they had become better people after they converted. Michael soon began warming to the idea.

“An Imam was summoned from the mosque and Michael went through the shahada, which is the Muslim declaration of belief,” the source revealed.

“Michael Jackson (MJ) was known as the most loving person in the world. He gave up most of his assets for charity and all his life, he fought for equality of the African Americans, AIDS victims, Against Drug Abuse, Against Abortion, Against Child Labor and secretly channelled his properties for the hungry children of the world.

However, he wasn’t peace at heart. He always think of himself as a child trapped inside a man’s body. Being Peter Pan is all his dream, never to grow up, forever a child. That inspires him to build Neverland – a heaven for children. Children of all ages and races are welcomed to Neverland. MJ had so much love to give.

However, he made a mistake which he didn’t know of the consequences. He saw the peaceful life his brother, Jermaine (Muhammad Abdul Aziz) had as a Muslim – true, Jermaine faced so much pressure that he moved to Bahrain.

In 1989, MJ made a press conference which shocked the world, “I have seen the Islam in the life of my brother, I have read the books about Islam. And I’d love to someday feel the calmness and peace of Islam….”

Since that, MJ’s life was never the same again. He was accused of so many accusations against child molestation. MJ was not someone who can deal with much pressure as he is a ‘delicate child’. All the extortion and black mail followed after that. Everything he did was being seen as wrong in the eyes of the Media. All these are to influence his fans to hate MJ. If he is hated, then he would not be influential anymore.

For several years, he stayed in England. Getting motivation from a long time friend, Cat Stevens, who had converted into Islam – named Yusuf Islam. From him, MJ learnt how Yusuf had survived being Muslim. He made friends with a song writer, Zain Bhikha too, who wrote a song titled, “GIVE THANKS TO ALLAH”, which he wanted MJ to sing whenever he is ready.

Following his trial, MJ withdrew to Bahrain, where he was the special guest of sheik Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the son of Bahrain’s king. It was then that Michael began to give conversion more “serious thought.” MJ stayed in Bahrain for approximately 3 years. He studied Islam, the prayers and learn to read the Koran (al-Quran).

Finally, he came back to Los Angeles and in November 2008 MJ had formally converted to Islam in a ceremony at a close friend’s house in Los Angeles. He perform Haj with the King of Bahrain and son on December 2008.

He had a hidden agenda when he wanted to make a final comeback. He announced in a press conference on March 2009, “This will be my final concert. I’ll see you all in July….”.

He planned that during his concert, he would announce that this is the FINAL concert as he wouldn’t be performing anymore. He will declare that he is a Muslim and will only sing with Yusuf Islam and Friends.

At the end of the concert, he will be singing the song, “GIVE THANKS TO ALLAH” with Yusuf Islam. That is the reason why he chose London as his final concert venue instead of the USA. It was because he thought he could escape the USA’s extortion, and that he could perform with yusuf Islam who is in England.

At 12.30am, 25th June 2009, he hugged his production manager and said, “After reherasing for 2 months, I am finally ready for the concert…” Before leaving to sleep, he waved his dancers, “It was a good night everyone. I’ll see you all tomorrow…. ” The next thing… He was pronounced dead at 2.26am….

When 911 was called, there are so much questions asked. It is as if they didn’t know who MJ is and where he lived. The questions asked are more towards to delay time. The hospital said the autopsy result can only be obtained after 2 months – very illogical as even the worst African technology could obtain the result in less than 2 weeks.

MJ’s family members opt for second private autopsy as they started to feel something fishy is going on. The result came out in about 4 days – MJ was drugged with high dosage of anaesthetic – drug that brings about a reversible loss of consciousness, if used to much could stop the heart from beating.

Another result which was not aired in the media was, MJ’s stomach is empty of this drug, but his blood were filled with it – same case as the death of Marilyn Monroe. The private doctors also found many needle marks, afraid to be forced injections given to MJ on his bed.

In CNN Live after a week, Barack Obama was interviewed. And he said, “I love MJ, I grew up listening to his songs. It is a great loss, but rest assured that there is no conspiracy in his death..”

Now, why must a President made such statement before the official autopsy result came out? How would he know that there is no conspiracy without the post-mortem result? Seems like someone is afraid of his shadows

NATO air strike brings back Nazi memories

A NATO bombing in Afghanistan that killed scores of people was a major mistake, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said Saturday as Germany defended the strike which its troops instigated.

“This was a big mistake,” Kouchner told reporters as he arrived for a second day of talks with his EU counterparts in Stockholm.

“We have to enquire and to denounce those responsible.”

German troops had ordered the air strike Friday because of the danger posed by Taliban militants who had hijacked fuel tankers in the northern Kunduz region of Afghanistan,

It has now come out that the trucks had actually got stuck in the riverbed and the militants had abandoned them and it was actually the poor civilians who came to the tankersfor taking free fuel.

The idea that taliban insurgents had ‘invited’ civilians or were distributing free oil just six kilometers from German base seems absurd at best.

German civilians are anxious about their troops getting involved in massacres like these specially as it brings back the hateful Nazi memories of WWII
